Isolation transformers can undertake a number of roles. Whether it is to simply provide isolation between two circuits and break a ground loop, or to form a neutral point which can be connected to earth to make a permanent earth referenced neutral for the following circuit, then Admagnetics are able to supply an isolation transformer for these, and other purposes.

Admagnetics can provide a range of connections such as double wound (single phase), delta star, delta zig-zag (interconnected star) and star star. All secondary connections are available with neutral connection points, where specified. It should be noted that the star star connection should only be used with both the primary and secondary neutral connections made, unless the load is 100% balanced.

In addition Admagnetics offer different earthscreen arrangements and phase angle displacements, if required.

Isolation transformers provide galvanic isolation. Galvanic isolation is a principle of isolating functional sections of electrical systems to prevent current flowing directly from one circuit to the other i.e. no direct conduction path is permitted. Energy or information, can still be exchanged between the sections by other means, such as capacitance, induction or by optical, acoustic or mechanical means. Transformers use induction but also have interwinding capacitance. The effects of this capacitance can be significantly reduced by the inclusion of at least one earthscreen.

Galvanic isolation is used where two or more electric circuits must communicate or transmit power between, but their earth reference may be at different potentials. It is an effective method of breaking earth loops by preventing unwanted current flowing between two circuits sharing an earthing conductor.
